An idea hiding in plain sight
Every day, you type a name into a browser and reach a website. Behind that familiar step is the Domain Name System: DNS translates names people can remember into IP addresses computers can use.
That work is distributed. Different organizations operate different parts of the system, following shared rules. A lookup can move through a hierarchy to reach the source responsible for a name.
That is our inspiration: a common way to find the right source, across independently operated services.
From a name to an intention
What if your agent could begin with what you actually need?
“A cordless lawn mower, within my budget, available nearby.” Your words express an intention. Intent Registry is being developed to give the goods and services in that request a shared, dependable meaning, and a path to information from the people who provide them.
The registry organizes those meanings into registered categories, with clear responsibility for each part. Your agent can then use that shared understanding to explore options on your behalf. You remain in control of the choice.
Distributed by design
Our goal is a network that no single corporation owns or manages end to end. Independent operators should be able to maintain their parts of the registry, while providers remain responsible for the information they publish.
Like DNS, the design brings together a shared structure, delegated responsibility and distributed operation. Shared governance will still matter: common rules make independent participation possible.
Intent Registry is a separate system inspired by DNS. It will have its own registry and resolution model.
